Scatter these props throughout the room:
white shirt (representing ~ purity, keeping our bodies clean)
socks & shoes ~ (representing service)
tie ~ (representing keeping the commandments, obedience)
suit jacket ~ (representing  The Holy Ghost)
name tag ~ (representing a testimony)
scriptures ~(representing of READING the scriptures)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Singing time can be intermixed with this lesson or songs may be omitted for time.
SING: I hope they call me on a mission
Let a brother come up to the front ~ preferably a stake missionary (but any brother can do!!!) (He is wearing a T-shirt and the dress pants. (NOT LOOKING QUITE LIKE A MISSIONARY!)
You sure don't quite like a missionary! Let our Primary help you look more like a missionary physically, and maybe we can discover ways to live worthily along the way. Well, you have the dress pants right. You are on the right track, you do need to cover your knees. Is there something in your pocket? A scripture? Ooh, let's read it?
READ Psalms 55:17 17 "Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice."
Missionaries pray a lot! So what does that mean we, too, have to do to prepare to be a missionary?.... (We have to pray)
So these pants are a symbol of prayer
(The brother buttons his white dress shirt)
There is a scripture in the pocket of the white shirt. Maybe someone can help us look it up?
Alma 5:19 I say unto you, can ye look up to God at that day with a pure heart and clean hands? I say unto you, can you look up, having the image of God engraven upon your countenances?
·       Clean" means "pure". White is the color that best symbolizes purity.
So this white shirt is a symbol of purity, of keeping our bodies clean.
SING - The Lord Gave Me a Temple
We need to find some socks & shoes for our missionary. Any one got any idea where to find some?
I wonder: how many pairs of shoes does a missionary wear out while on a mission?
There is a scripture in the socks.... who will help us find that scripture?
READ 3 Nephi 12:41 41 "And whosoever shall compel thee to
go a mile, go with him twain."
  • Who knows what "twain" means?
  • So what does that scripture mean? (To go the second mile) Now lets look up the second scripture... Mosiah 2:17 and let us read that one as well. "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
So these socks and shoes is a symbol of service
SING - Go the Second Mile p. 167
What else can we add? Yes, a cool tie! Could someone please find a tie?
There is a scripture on the back of the tie.... Wonder what it says?
READ Proverbs 6:20-21 20 "My son, keep thy
father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck."
·         What do you think the first part of that scripture means?
·         What about verse 21, When we are obeying our parents, who else are we also obeying?
·         So, if we do not obey our parents, then we also are not being obedient to our Father in Heaven, right?
·         Who do you know that was born of goodly parents and is a GREAT example of obedience to the commandments that we just LOVE to sing about?
So this tie is a symbol of obedience and keeping the commandments
SING - Nephi's Courage p. 120
Are you ready to go on a mission now?
The brother: "Actually, for some reason I feel, I don't know, insecure or something. I feel like I need something more around me. If I had a suit jacket, that would bring me a lot of comfort. As missionaries, we had to wear our jackets almost all of the time."
·         Who can find me a suit jacket that might fit our missionary?
In the jacket sleeve there is a scripture.
READ John 14:26  "But the
Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
·         How is the Holy Ghost like a comforter?
·         Why is it important to have the Holy Ghost with us?
·         How would we feel if we didn't have the Holy Ghost with us?
·         What can we do to keep the Holy Ghost around us?
So this suit jacket is a symbol of The Holy Ghost
SING - The Still Small Voice p.106
Well, Primary? What do you think? Does he look like a missionary? EXACTLY like a missionary? What is missing? A name tag???? Anyone see one????
On back of Name Tag is a scripture.
READ D&C 76:22
 22 And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
So this name is a symbol of a testimony
Okay, we know that full-time missionaries wear this tag.
  • Does every missionary have to wear one?
  • Can we be a missionary if we don't have a name tag?
Do you think it is possible for us to bear our testimony of Jesus Christ without even opening our mouth?
SING - The Church of Jesus Christ p.77
Now you look like a fine missionary, but your hands are empty. What are missing? Yes, the scriptures.
  • Well, what does the scripture say on the scriptures?
READ Alma 17:2-3 while holding a picture of the sons of Mosiah-Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God.
 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God.
 So, these sons of Mosiah searched the scriptures a lot, prayed, and taught with the spirit. Could we study the scriptures now so that we can learn the teachings so if we know the answers to questions others may have of our belief?
So reading the scriptures will help us become good missionaries to others.
SING - "Search, Ponder and Pray" p.109
Well our missionary is looking like a missionary and is ready to preach the gospel to the world. Are we ready to become missionaries like the many we see around in their suits and tags. Tell others about the church? I hope you will seek oportunities to be a missionary to someone else that crosses your path. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
